Thinking Green

1. Thinking Green

The opportunities to reduce the environmental and health impacts of our homes span from big decisions, like location, to seemingly small decisions, like paint and light bulbs. The products we use to clean, light, furnish, renovate, and build our homes must be a part of the greening process. Reducing our environmental impacts requires thinking and learning about not just how we use products, but where they came from and where they’re going. Consider factors like:

  • Energy used to make, ship, and use a product;
  • The product’s contents and the sources of its raw materials;
  • Emissions during manufacturing the product and the level and type of toxins in the final product; and
  • The product’s durability (lifespan) and recyclability.

2. Green Partners

It’s extremely important when making any kind of home improvement to consider every facet of the project. From overall cost and time to complete, to the benefits of going green long term and the possible energy rebates you could receive short term. There are smart choices that can be made and at NO additional cost to you, if you know where to look. You just have to partner with the right company and DelPrete Home Improvements is ready when you are!

3. Green Options

While other elements such as smart insulation and proper ventilation are the big factors in a green home, you can make a world of difference in the materials you select to both build and finish your home. An obvious choice would be purchasing EnergyStar appliances, but what about:

  • Premium insulated vinyl siding siding that can greatly increase the R-value of your home
  • Duration®Premium Cool Shingles are ENERGY STAR® rated and feature unique lighter colors
  • Simonton Windows with ENERGY STAR glass packages specifically designed for harsh Northern climate zones

4. Shingle Recycling

We recycle our shingles at selected recycling stations throughout New England and recycle all Aluminum drip edge

  • DelPrete Home Improvements actually established the recycling program for Owens Corning in Massachusetts and is one of the ONLY companies recognized by Owens Corning as a company that pledges to recycle ALL of our shingles.
Shingle Recycling

In the photo above, at C. Carney Environmental in Raynham, you can see the incoming shingle pile on the left-hand side. It is then cleaned, metal separated, and then ground up to 1/4″ minus for roads, which is the clean pile on the right-hand side. Nothing goes into a landfill!

Owens Corning - Shingle Recycling

It is our mission to offer only the highest quality, most energy-efficient products, and services on the market that we, ourselves, use in our homes.  Additionally, we focus on the greening of our business by utilizing technology to reduce print and paper materials, reduce waste by partnering with environmentally conscientious manufacturers, and recycle as much construction debris as possible.  Let’s all do our part and preserve our way of life for our children.

5. PVC Recycling

DelPrete Home Improvements has partnered with The Azek Company and Cape Cod Lumber to take PVC recycling to the next level. With dedicated 44″ x 44″ bins available at our Grove Street location, we’re making it easier than ever to keep PVC products out of landfills. We can recycle everything from PVC pipe and trim to PVC decking and even vinyl siding. Simply bring your clean PVC — free of nails, screws, or other contaminants, and no composite decking — and recycle with confidence, knowing it will be responsibly processed and repurposed.

    Met the Team at the Home Improvement Show at Gillette, they did a great job on our addition and main house. We had an unusual roof configuration and the sales team was very good at working with me to come up with an installation that worked. … More See the attached photo, downspout from a small section of roof on the front of the new addition, they were able to bring it down the fascia just like we discussed, that is the mark of a top notch installation contractor, works with the home owner to make the finished job come out perfect.I have been in the Engineering and Construction Industry for nearly 50 years and DelPrete Home Improvement has been one of the few contractors that I have given 5 stars to, they are pleasant to work with, knowledgeable on their craft/trade and the installation crew was professional and friendly on one of the hottest days of this year.I would absolutely consider using DelPrete again in the future.

    We had DelPrete replace our 30 y/o Windows, Clapboard and Cedar Shingles. I cant say enough good things about the whole process. Although this past winter pushed back our start date, once the job was started I could not believe how quickly … More and efficiently Estuardo's crew worked. From 7AM to 6:30 PM 6 days a week, they all went about their business and did a thorough clean up at days end. Dave was always available to answer any questions we had during the project. The house came out fantastic. So looking forward to having them back to work on our porch reconstruction late summer/early fall. Thank you again to everyone at DelPrete for the excellent job and just being good people to work with.

    Five star experience all round!The communication from the sales and project management teams was first class throughout including the job scope, advanced prep requirements and on-site ETAs.Pre and post job inspections allowed as much time … More as necessary to provide clarity on the existing structural conditions and explain the various aspects of the completed work.The roofing crew arrived on time, were very courteous and presentable, were mindful of the flora, did a great job with the install and clean-up and completed the job in a day as promised.Everything above also applied to Part two of this project which was to replace all of the exterior cedar shingles and wood plank with Hardie fiber cement and trim with a couple of new windows also installed in the garage.Like Derek beforehand Project Managers Jimmy and Dave were exemplary throughout along with Estuardo leading an equally hardworking, courteous, presentable and conscientious crew.Once again this project was completed on time with exceptional communicationthroughout from Jimmy and Dave.There were some minor post-job aesthetics that were identified by both parties (which was very reassuring) but again nothing was too much trouble for them and Estuardo to diligently attend to in a concerted effort to ensure that we, as the homeowners, were left totally happy with the end result.

    I recently had my roof replaced by Del Prete Home Improvements (formerly Beantown Home Improvements, Inc), and honestly it was a really smooth experience.The pricing was fair and easy to understand, and the crew was great to work with. … More They showed up on time, worked hard, and got everything done faster than I expected.They kept me updated along the way and were easy to get in touch with if I had any questions. Cleanup was solid too—no mess left behind, which I definitely appreciated.Overall, I’m really happy with how everything turned out. The new roof looks great and I’d definitely recommend them to anyone needing roofing work done.
